About this artwork
With this work, Philippe Fares approaches an important phase in the construction of large buildings: deep foundations.
The sculpture evokes a section of dip tube used to concrete a pile in depth, from the good ground, to the coast of the future paving of the building.
The surface aspect as well as the earthy color of DEEP FOUNDATION 1/6 correspond to the reality of the ground. Clay slurry, concrete and sludge mix together in extra thickness on… the surface of the plunger tube, when it comes out of the ground, during the concreting of the piles.
The surface treatment by oxidation gives the whole a rusty appearance, suggesting the bad weather and the mechanical stresses, which the drilling equipment undergoes on the sites.
With FONDATION PROFONDE 1/6, Philippe Fares gives us a raw work, which reconnects with the major projects of his former life.
