Following the viewing of a documentary on Jean-michel BASQUIAT, P.GRAU undertakes this completely subjective and above all non-anecdotal portrait. The original idea mixes the photo of an old wagon with that of JMB: nostalgia, death. From the wagon only the bolts remain at the end.
The skull is a recurring image at BASQUIAT. As a reminder of this head, the two bolts surmounted by a pink arc suggests a fairly comic character. The female character… creates a diagonal which can refocus everything on a pictogram inspired by computers. The gray / yellow / brown and blue set has a fairly harsh atmosphere. A rose puts a note of madness and nonsense to accompany in the paradise of the painters this young genius dead really too early at 28 years old.

For Pierre Grau, the painting begins where the words stop. The French painter and draftsman believes that only the shapes, color, and composition that structures the work counts, that the rest is ‘blah blah blah’. Grau’s style is mostly figurative but also drifts towards the abstract. Acrylics on canvas perfectly suit his artistic practice, as it is easy to use and quick to dry.
