About this artwork
Suspense ... What's going on in this table? the 3 figures at the top of the table, are not so mysterious, but naked. They were painted during an installation session, when the canvas was white. there were others but they were covered in an abstract way, and became the bottom.
The worried-looking woman comes out of an 18th century massacre painting. She is right to be worried.
What is happening ? The real suspense is for the painter: he paints… in the 21st century. And ancient and today.
It will take him hours of trial and error. the end point will be put with the orange band which like a mask highlights worried eyes.
Like maybe those of the spectators.

« Painting a painting is like strolling in an unknown land. We give ourselves a starting point, without ever knowing the endpoint. In this game, surprise is the final reward. »
For Pierre Grau, the painting begins where the words stop. The French painter and draftsman believes that only the shapes, color, and composition that structures the work counts, that the rest is ‘blah blah blah’. Grau’s style is mostly figurative but also drifts towards the abstract. Acrylics on canvas perfectly suit his artistic practice, as it is easy to use and quick to dry.
