ART & SYNESTHESIA;
Colorful clusters and vibrant vibratos
characterize the work of the abstract expressionist and synesthete Pierre van Dijk. As a synesthete, Pierre uses form and color to visualize his perception of music. This perception is called synesthesia. The experience "synesthesia" lies with the beholder, the listener and is an individual experience.
Synesthesia is the neurological phenomenon in which a sensory perception inadvertently… evokes one or more other sensory impressions. Although it is not uncommon for sensory perceptions to interact, this is so strong in synesthesia that, for example, colors are tasted or sounds are seen.
A number of known Synesthetes; Vincent van Gogh painter, David Hockney painter, W. Kandinsky painter, Franz Liszt composer, Sibelius composer, Robbert Dijkgraaf physicist, Marilyn Monroe movie star.

« Fragile Freedom »
So far, the year 2022 has proved to be a year of shocking events and changes.
Inspired by the fragility of our freedom, artist Pierre van Dijk felt compelled to leave Impressionism and move on to Abstract Expressionism.
After all, art is the only thing that both continuously move and silently listen to the soul.
The paintings in the “Fragile Freedom” series are poetic and vulnerable,
offering a light of hope and perpetual movement in both imagination and desire.
