About this artwork
BLUE UNIVERSE The Verginian Star, or the Verginian Sun, is a symbol, an artistic representation of a sixteen-rayed star. It was discovered in 1977 during archaeological excavations at Vergina, in northern Greece, by Professor Manolis Andronikos. The "star" decorated the golden tomb of one of the kings of ancient Macedonia.
Andronikos described the symbol vaguely: as a "star", "star-splendour" or "sun-splendour".[1] He himself believed that the… tomb in which the star was found belonged to Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great. Other historians have speculated that it was the tomb of King Philip III Arrhidaeus.[2] It can be seen in the Archaeological Museum of Vergina, near the site of its discovery.
