About this artwork
The glint in the eyes of my Two -year-old son, when he sees a new toy in a store, is unmistakable. His whole world converges on that one object of desire. Nothing else in the world holds greater happiness for him at that moment...While I look at him childish craving in amusement, thinking how one can be so fascinated by something so utterly useless, a realization dawns on me.
Isn't his innocent craving summing up our lives ?
Aren't our lives never-ending… successions of wanting this or that? And then quickly coming to terms with our gain and wanting something else?
Or sulking when we do not get our toy ?
My paintings in this series tell the tale of the toy-store that is life. For sometimes, it can be unnerving to realize that as I am busy putting my life together, someone looks on in amusement...
« As the moment flashes by, leaving its color on my being, I try to hold onto it. »
Priyendra Shukla is a painter and sculptor based in India whose works have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally.
