About this artwork
Being inspired by retro wallpaper patterns, the green plant here symbolizes nature, vitality and endurance. The pot-like imagery representing human impact is supposed to be connected with the plant, but their connection looks awkward and discordant. As a metaphor of technological supremacy, the sci-fi-like background is processed as color blocks without any sign of life, even without shadows of the plant.
This series is a eulogy to all the house… plants we’ve killed, as well as a reflection on the ambivalent relationship among human, nature and technology.

QiuChen Fan was born in Kunming, China. As a recipient of Dean's Scholarship from Cleveland Institute of Art, QiuChen started her art journey in the US in 2011. She received her BFA as a drawing major in 2015 with “Excellence in Drawing” award scholarship. After few years graduating from school, QiuChen can finally settle down and have a little home-based studio to better focus on her art producing.
QiuChen mainly works through 2D medium incorporating ink, pencil, acrylic and collage. With a primary interest of people and the boundaries that exists within relationships, her work explores the co-existence of contradictions, contemporary lifestyles and consumer culture. Being influenced by both Chinese and American communication modes and aesthetic systems, she considers the role of an artist as an observer and art as a way
