About this artwork
"Saudade" is a Portuguese word that is said not to have a translation in any other language. It's a feeling, of longing and missing, combined with the wish of having something back, a moment, a feeling, or someone. It's not nostalgia or missing per se, which both have correspondent words in Portuguese, with their own meaning. It's maybe something unique to Portuguese descendent cultures.
This painting talks about longing, some sort of saudade, leaving… open for each viewer to figure for what it could be.
To the artist. it represents a search for deeper connections, with ourselves, our past, both personally and collectively, and with the world around us, the natural world we came from, expressed through the window, and by the placement of this painting as the start of a collection about the magnitude of Nature, and an exploring of it, in a seach for a connection to it.
