About this artwork
Patricia Highsmith has named as a basic theme for her novels: "Anyone can become a murderer". Our garden gnome stands there in complete silence, concentrated, almost emotionless but irrevocably determined; something has built up and at some point it's enough.
I used translucent, liquid acrylic paints, sometimes mixed with Indian ink, applied with a brush to handmade paper. The size of the handmade paper with the drawing is 36 x 29 cm, delivered… with a 50 x 40 cm passepartout.

« Everything that touches you deeply has to do with the way we move here on earth. Personal feelings are transferred to others and become universal. »
Ralf Schmidt is an experimented German artist whose paintings have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in the Netherlands. His figurative works portray inner realities, as well as individual aspects and situations that connect with "collective feeling". Schmidt's compositions have their own unique image structure, wherein the motif represented in the middle is "torn from the original context".
