Raúl Martín (Spain, 1973) works from the Ecuadorian Andes. Before dedicating himself to photography, he spent fifteen years in the Spanish film industry, selecting and directing extras for productions filmed in Valencia. That skill—looking at an ordinary person and seeing a character in them—is what underpins all his work.

High-contrast black and white photography, composed in monochrome from within the viewfinder itself. His images place a solitary body within a crumbling architecture: thresholds, openings, windows, structures on the verge of collapse. The figure never quite enters nor leaves.

He doesn't seek pleasing photography, but rather what he calls an unsettling beauty: the suspended instant in which fragility and resilience share the same gesture. Each piece functions like a frame from a film that doesn't exist, and which the viewer completes on their own.
