About this artwork
"Palm" is a multi-media painting on canvas incorporating oil and acrylic paint with collaged pieces of canvas, paper and found wood. It is a continuation in the series of paintings I started in 2012 that integrates large stone shapes and tightly-woven pebble shapes that move and entwine throughout the piece. I work directly on the wall (you can see me in my portfolio picture working on a painting) rather than stretched canvas. I prefer working on…
a hard surface so that I can move around different elements like paper, canvas, metal and plastic pieces I am going to collage onto the canvas - like doing a puzzle except starting from scratch. I also turn the canvas as part of my process which creates balance and enables you, the viewer, to hang the piece anyway you like, either vertically or horizontally. I present the work here the way in which I think it looks best but ultimately orientation is up to the owner

« The joy and process of creating visually compelling, abstract paintings and drawings; experimenting, making marks, and allowing myself to be affected by the visual information all around me, keeps me moving forward as an artist. »
Rebecca Jacoby is an American painter who has extensively exhibited in the United States. Although her art reflects colors that do not often appear in the natural world, the images in her compositions are inspired by the woods and mountains of New England. Jacoby's abstract style is conveyed through multiple mediums, which include acrylics, oils, ink, markers, pens, etc. She also incorporates elements of collage in her colorful artistic works.
