For a long time now, in life and in art, I have been on a pilgrimage for a deeper meaning in the process of a search that has taken me through different cities, projects, counties, partners, sensations ... And I don’t know what exactly I am chasing and waiting for, if not for love and that particular… occasion when the blue
can become the blue azzuro, and one believes it is the truth, ... for at least just a moment.
In Maine, during the residency I decided to spend 45 days filming myself from the back while I was looking towards the pontoon for 45 minutes. After watching 35 hours of film footage, at one moment I noticed that a “mistake” happened, and the camera, shot a blurry picture. This photograph established the visual identity of the entire project. At the end of my residency, I wrote the text that became a part of the artwork.
Renata Poljak is a visual artist from Croatia who works across film, video, photography, collage, drawing, neon, sound, and multimedia installation, deeply informed by her roots and extensive international background. She employs narrative, poetic ambiguity, and layered visual storytelling, often centered on motifs of the sea and islands to evoke immersive, cinematic experiences. Her technique skillfully interweaves memory, longing, and presence within open-ended, multisensory environments. Through her deeply poetic explorations, she conjures profound emotions of fragility, resilience, and the tension between intimacy and universality, inviting viewers into rich spaces of empathy and contemplation.
