Three reproductions of an urban scene in Cracolândia, São Paulo, gradually show the loss of color. At the center of the image, stuffed animals are suspended by shoelaces, hanging from electrical wires — childlike figures that symbolically evoke the state of life in that space: children… in suspension. As the sequence progresses, the plush toys fade, as does the rest of the image, suggesting a process of invisibilization of populations marginalized by society. The work functions as a brief yet striking reminder of the neglect and ineffectiveness of public authorities in the face of worsening urgent public health issues.
Renato Gosling is a São Paulo–based visual artist who transforms everyday subtleties into works charged with memory, affection, and critique. Born in 1976, he builds his practice from fragments of popular Brazilian life, using micro-narratives, sensory references, and childhood evocations to reflect on time, identity, and culture. In an era of acceleration and information overload, his works propose a pause — quiet invitations to contemplation.
