About this artwork
In the painting I wanted to explore the theme of collectivity and identity through a vibrant and dynamic composition. The canvas is populated by a multitude of stylized fish, all dark red in color, delimited by clear white edges and immersed in an intense blue sea. The chromatic contrast between red and blue creates a powerful visual effect, which immediately draws the attention of the observer.
The compositional rhythm is tight and almost hypnotic:… the fish, although similar in shape, vary in size and direction, suggesting movement and life. The choice to stylize the silhouettes, making them almost abstract, contributes to a symbolic reading of the work: each element is part of a whole, yet maintains its own individuality.
Also interesting is the use of negative space, which itself becomes an integral part of the subject: the blue sea is not just a background, but defines and frames the fish, as if they were cut out of a single surface.
I'm a self-taught painter, and what sets me apart is my free and instinctive use of color, which in my work is layered to create dense textures and crowded urban landscapes. I began with more spontaneous and light-hearted works, then evolved towards a more conscious and critical approach. At the same time, I explore abstraction with works inspired by Pollock and Rothko. My Cities are born from abstract foundations. The City as a complex organism that reflects the contradictions of our time. My series explore three great fragilities: the vulnerability of cities to climate change, the wounds inflicted by man through wars and manipulated ideologies, and the inequalities between glittering centers and forgotten peripheries. I paint universal, non-geographic cities as a metaphor for the human condition: places that bear the hopes, scars, and tensions of our time.
