About this artwork
Clockwork is the fourth large canvas painting of a new series for 2021.This painting began life from a various areas in and around Brockwell Park. He recreated a mix of scenes in collage form using imagery from old paintings and new ideas. When the collage was finalised he then sketched out on the canvas, painted, then embellished. It is a mixture of old ideas, old references, modern palette along side new ideas. It is explorative in its basic…
sense but envelopes many ideas that he has been pulling together over the past few years. He wanted to elicit a feeling of reflection in a world where we are under constant visual bombardment.

One of the key themes in Rian Hotton's art is his choice of palette, with which he happily takes risks.
