About this artwork
There are doors that don't have the shape of a door.
The Threshold is a work that both attracts and stops the viewer. In the center of the canvas, a deep, dense black opens like an abyss, like the interior of something with no visible bottom.
Around it, a wreath of branches and brambles intertwined in black is woven against a deep, luminous golden yellow background, creating a border that is simultaneously protection and barrier, ornament and trap.… The contrast between the black of the center and the gold of the background is absolute and deliberate: the light exists, it is abundant, it is there—but surrounded by a tangle that does not invite easy passage.
Like any true threshold. The square shape of the work is not accidental: the square is the figure of stability, of construction, of that which has clear limits. And yet, within this well-defined frame, the content is pure organic chaos, pure nature that knows nothing of geometry. The tension between container and content is another of the work's thresholds.
I am a self-taught painter. I employ techniques that fuse abstraction, symbolism, and conceptualization, creating imaginary characters and faces that emerge from a creative anarchy. My work invites an open and subjective interpretation; I like to convey a sense of searching through my art, and I am interested in the diverse emotions that awaken profound reflections in each observer.
Some paintings are born from a mental image, others from an impulse, others from an idea. My works speak of figures, gestures, and symbols. Sometimes there are people. Other times, branches. Or memories that cannot be named. I work with what I have close at hand or with images that don't exist. Sometimes the painting isn't beautiful, but it creates emotions and different points of view. I am interested in identity, the passage of time, and the imperfect beauty of the everyday. Each piece reflects a part of my inner world, which I try to discover.
