I photographed them, returned often, and began manipulating the images—enlarging, darkening, inverting, and mirroring them. Abstract forms drift across the surface: serpentine lines and cloudy pools of pigment recall roots, rivers, or even ghostly figures in motion. The interplay of colour and fissure gives the sense of something being uncovered or revealed—an excavation not only of surface but of imagination.
Though the work is entirely abstract, it feels narratively charged. The viewer is invited to decipher forms, to find creatures, gestures, or landscapes within the abstraction.

Richard Berkeley, an art enthusiast since childhood, communicates through painting, photography, printmaking, and textiles. He masterfully combines these mediums within his works, focusing on architectural themes, often drawing inspiration from the patina of Warsaw's walls. His technique uncovers areas of hidden significance nestled within photographic prints, which he then enhances using various forms of painting. Berkeley's art encapsulates a thrilling exploration of discovery, provoking thought and an uncanny sensation within the viewer as they unearth the images he has subtly imprinted in his work.
