About this artwork
In crafting this oil painting, I poured my soul into capturing the essence of music's power to transport us. The figures are immersed in their performance, embodying the transcendence that only a symphony of notes can bestow. Their expressions are a silent melody; their instruments, the voice of unspoken passions. The darkness around them is rich, highlighting the illumination of their artistry. This painting will fill any room with the deep, resonant… beauty of a timeless concert.
I admire musicians' facial expressions when they perform. They appeal to the audience just as much as the performers' amazing talents and skills. Indeed, the expressions are part of the performance itself. People don't pay more to sit at the front row for nothing. Every bit of detail, however subtle, can deliver something extraordinary and magical.
Chiang was introduced to the oil medium at the age of thirteen. He was immediately taken by its versatility and slow-drying attributes. It was a time before the digital mediums became highly developed and widely accessible. The freedom of adding layers and blending colors opened up unprecedented possibilities for him. His fascination for the oil medium has been consistent even after the arrival of the digital age of art creation. To him, oil's organic brushstrokes are irreplaceable no matter how close the digital tools could deliver.
Painting helps Chiang maintain his inner piece, meditate on life, and seek wonders in the mundane. He believes, “Beauty is everywhere, it only takes the eyes to see, the mind to perceive, and the heart to appreciate.”
