About this artwork
This painting is inspired by parts of the canopy of trees in the woodland where I live in the UK. I am very inspired by the effects of wooded places on natural light at different stages of day and night. The refracted light that ricochets around the trees creates wonderful, intricate patterns and shapes and the trees themselves make uniquely shaped windows to the sky in the spaces between them where the canopy opens.
Here the canopy is seen in the… reflection of a flooded clearing in the woods. My wish is for the viewer to experience a sense of peering down into the water and seeing the fragmented light and shadow silhouette shapes of the tall trees reflected.
I walk and cycle in these woods daily and they have become a primary source of inspiration for me as an artist. As a landscape painter, my direct contact and relationship with this community of trees provides a rich area to explore both visually and in a meditative sense.
