About this artwork
The Flower of the Caribbean is a large-format work (48” x 60”) that is part of a series I began 2018 with the purpose of highlighting our African heritage in the Caribbean, a fundamental root of the cultural blend we now recognize as cimarrón or creole. In this piece, I used flowers native to the region as a metaphor for a symbolic pilgrimage through the different Caribbean islands and territories, celebrating their diversity and cultural richness.
