About this artwork
This grew outwards from a deep appreciation of the forest detail, enjoying the layering of objects that pushed the fallen tree back further into the distance. Ultimately, this series of paintings is about the concept of the minds' tendency to impose imagery or opinions onto a situation, to want to be elsewhere, and it is about a conflict between enjoying a mystical experience, yet not remaining in that mystical place for long - being pulled away…
from it, either by circumstances or by the mind's wandering nature.
Rob D Davies
United Kingdom
Rob Davies's background is in Fine Art and Authorial Illustration (masters degree). His artistic style, abundant with intuitive ‘gestural expressionism,’ captures subtle, dreamlike narratives, veiled beneath the obvious.
One side of his painting involves large-scale watercolours that explore and question the mundanity of everyday life in the context of the everyday landscape. His works are subversive, eclectic and surprising. They are grounded in reality as a starting point, but certain objects, narratives and compositions pivot towards the fantastic and imagined.
These semi-real landscapes turn the mundane into something surreal. Slightly humorous yet deeply profound, his pieces expose the viewer to his whimsical interpretation of the ‘sublime'.
