About this artwork
An important aspect of the work is the material aspect of the paint, not thin, but applied in a thick layer by dripping. The white layer seems to lie behind the black birds and branches, in practice the different layers of paint are next to each other. The tension of 'colliding' layers of paint, paint dams, a precarious balance; because a little too much white and it engulfs the 'black'. The layer of paint gives the image, and thus the birds, both…
space and a sense of 'captivity'. Furthermore, especially questions: How are the birds in the tree arranged in relation to each other? What does the mutual chatter say about communication? Is there a dialogue and if so what is it about. Is there a hierarchy or is it a coincidence how they relate to each other? Is every bird the same or are there minuscule differences. Are we watching a peaceful gathering of birds in the snow or an excerpt from Hitchcock's The Birds? For me, the work mainly raises questions. That to me is visual art.

Rob Regeer is an artist based in the Netherlands whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in Belgium. Through his works, he endeavors to convey and develop his own personal visual language. In addition, Regeer cites nature as playing an important role in his artistic expression. He does not employ realistic colors in his compositions, rather, he allows emotions to determine the color palette.
