About this artwork
The artist continues to draw inspiration from time spent his second studio on Queensland's Gold Coast. The daily flocks of gulls congregate and jostle for pole position on the endless stretches of Golden sands. Squabbles erupt almost constantly, as tempers flare the artist was reminded of his days spent commuting to work stuck in traffic on the M1.
Multiple layering techniques have been used in this work to create depth and pattern. Yellow ochre… and vibrant blues are blended to create variations in the piece. The gulls are created from negative space revealing a tie-dye effect beneath the sand. the gulls' faces are fully realized with the birds then merging into loose silhouettes continuing the theme of tranquility in the artist's latest body of works.
