About this artwork
This is one of his "Electricity" paintings. These are paintings where Robert tries to make a strong visual, poetic and emotional effect with as few variables as possible. So in this painting he is just using black and pink to try and make a powerful impact that overwhelms the viewer.
The dark background has numerous layers of transparent black to create a surface with a lustrous depth. The pink is placed on in a loose fashion with drips and lines… creating a visual maelstrom that buzzes in the viewers eyes pulling them back and forth.
While seemingly abstract the "Electricity" paintings are inspired by music and can look like fields of wheat or fields of flowers. The large size of the painting helps to cause a great impact on the viewer.
