About this artwork
This picture 'Expression' was created in the summer of 2015 after a moving visit to the museum of my great idol Antoni Tapies in Barcelona. In great anticipation, I stepped into the large, specially illuminated picture room and was immediately touched emotionally, moved by the tremendous power of these works. In the studio, I brought this emotional world to life with strong layers of material made from soapstone powder, marble powder and ashes. Reinforced…
by the glossy bitumen paint and the scratch marks of the iron spatula, the rusty earth slag from the interior of the picture pushes itself to the surface. There is often something indiscreet, unauthorized, even nostalgic about this open display of the emotional world when working out a picture. The characters in many pictures are actual placeholders for unforgettable stations or events in my life.

Robert Süess is an experienced Swiss artist and internationally successful painting teacher whose works have been exhibited in art fairs and galleries throughout Europe. His works are an expression of his observations, feelings and harmonious joy of color. He shows this mainly in abstract, expressionistic, but also figurative series of works in acrylic and mixed media on canvas. His pictures are energetic overall compositions that reflect the character and passion of the artist.
