About this artwork
In “Aerial”, Robin Ballard’s goal was to free her mind from her usual way of creating a piece of art, which usually involves methodical planning and a pre-conceived vision. In previous paintings, she used watered-down acrylic paint to mix and blend colors in a controlled way. In “Highland”, she wanted to see what happened when she, in a sense, let go. After the paint had been applied, and dried, she interpreted the results. Some resulting forms were…
re-painted and the artist added flat silver paint and lines to juxtapose the painting’s fluid imagery. As with most abstract work, the artist, and viewer sees something in the work. For the artist, it is a cloudy sky, rain, and a glimmer of sunlight.
