About this artwork
The bird depicted in the painting is based on the Resplendent Quetzal, considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful birds. Unfortunately, because of this, the Quetzal teetered on the brink of extinction by the turn of the century. It was widely hunted for its feathers, which were used in women’s fashion, most notably hats. The Quetzal represented is meticulously painted in detail and sits atop a gold stripe. The background is a gradation of…
middle green into dark green, which is then spotted with drops of paint. The painting is part of the artist's Habitat series, which is a celebration of trees, plants, botanical forms and animals.

« My art is associative. It’s how I interpret the world around me. »
Robin Ballard is an exciting Swiss painter who has exhibited her work nationally. In her paintings, she primarily reflects on contemporary issues such as migration, the rise of China and global dependency on crude oil, seeking not to impose any particular stance but rather to provoke thought and introspection. Ballard additionally enjoys the play between abstract and realistic representation, expertly navigating both to compose a body of work that showcases impressive diversity across a range of styles, subjects and forms.
