About this artwork
In “Lush”, the artist’s main goal was to allow the paint to decide what happens on the canvas. It was an attempt to free the artist’s mind from her usual way of creating a piece of art, which often involves methodical planning and a pre-conceived vision of the work. The artist, in previous paintings, used watered-down acrylic paint to mix and blend colors in a controlled way. In “Lush”, she wanted to see what happened when she, in a sense, let go.…
After the paint had been applied, and dried, she interpreted the results. Some resulting forms were re-painted and the artist added flat silver paint and lines to juxtapose the painting’s fluid imagery. What emerged was an expressionistic take on flowers and grasses growing in a painterly garden.
