About this artwork
The painting was inspired by a photograph the artist took while walking along the Wiese, a river that flows from Germany and empties into the Rhine near her home in Basel, Switzerland. She began the painting by spraying the background with acrylic paint and then loosely dripping colors on top. The tree's form was then painted as a silhouette using the color white. The painting is stark, evoking a sense of winter. It is a contemporary interpretation…
of a nature painting. “Mistletoe” works well against a white wall and as with all of Robin Ballard's paintings, it is easy to hang.

« My art is associative. It’s how I interpret the world around me. »
Robin Ballard is an exciting Swiss painter who has exhibited her work nationally. In her paintings, she primarily reflects on contemporary issues such as migration, the rise of China and global dependency on crude oil, seeking not to impose any particular stance but rather to provoke thought and introspection. Ballard additionally enjoys the play between abstract and realistic representation, expertly navigating both to compose a body of work that showcases impressive diversity across a range of styles, subjects and forms.
