About this artwork
In Limine presents a painted wooden box, mounted on the wall in a red velvet case, roughly the size of a medicine cabinet, but with a woodwork reminiscent of a shutter. The surface painting depicts a moving waterfall, its diluted paint spreading laterally in filaments. The waterfall's water flows from top to bottom, while the paint seems to carry the image from left to right, diluting it in the process. On closer inspection, the wooden support itself…
is engraved with the Latin phrase in limine, "at the threshold." Finally, the box is closed with a clasp and sealed with a red wax seal. The seal, firm and coldly judicial, could melt if the temperature rises, thus opening a Pandora's box whose dynamism is foreshadowed by the programmatic cascade on its surface. The limit of the title (In Limine) is within reach, just as the boundary is thin with the accelerating flow.

Robin Suiffet, who studied languages and literature, oscillates between painting, photography, drawing and engraving. His technical approach, inherited from Alpine wood sculpture, mixes shadow and light to create a universe that is both overloaded and luminous.
