About this artwork
With The Ape - I wanted to explore the balance between raw, primal energy and the structured complexity of modern life. My process involves a rhythmic, almost meditative application of interlocking black and red lines, where each stroke contributes to a sense of movement and vitality.
I chose a high-contrast palette of vibrant red and deep black to act as a visual pulse. To me, the red represents the life force and the unseen vibrations that exist… beneath the surface. From a distance, the powerful form of the primate is clear and commanding, but as you move closer, the figure dissolves into an intricate map of abstract geometry and graphic patterns.
This piece is part of my fascination with minimalist yet expressive animal portraits. By focusing on the power of the line, I aim to capture the soul and quiet contemplation of the ape in a way that feels both contemporary and timeless.
Born in 1976 and trained at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, I work from my studio in Tel Aviv, where I bridge the gap between classical craftsmanship and digital innovation. My practice is a constant dialogue between traditional mediums-oil painting, charcoal, and graphite-and the cutting-edge worlds of digital motion and AI.
Through my signature 24/7 Painting Machine concept, I marry the physical intensity of intricate cross-hatching with relentless digital evolution. My work captures icons suspended between anxiety, desire, and estrangement, confronting viewers with raw, soulful gazes that reflect the fractured human condition in our hyper-technologized era.
