About this artwork
With "The Inner Labyrinth," I wanted to explore the unseen architecture of human thought. This monochromatic portrait dives into the dualities of the mind, where structured patterns meet raw, fluid emotion. Using thick, tactile strokes of black oil pastel, I carved out an abstract silhouette that challenges the boundaries of traditional portraiture.
The organic, brain-like shapes within the profile reflect the constant dialogue between our hidden… subconscious and the faces we present to the world. For me, removing color forces the viewer to confront the heavy contrast, the depth of the shadows, and the tactile movement of the medium. It is an invitation to lose oneself in the maze of the human psyche.
