About this artwork
The Canoe or boat is a symbolic vessel, here inspired by sojourns in the mountain lakes around Mount Shasta . The setting is complimentary hues with a bright center shore-like horizon, the vision of an approaching boat overflowing with white becomes the object of focus. Trinity refers both to the neighboring Trinity Wilderness and the mystical/spiritual feelings that inspired this painting and hopefully the viewer. The trinity is a theme repeated…
in the work as the reconciling of the color polarities, the RGB, the land/water/vessel, etc. The process of creation for such a large format work involved heavy duty reinforced stretchers with HD #12 canvas stretched and primed, the first paint was applied from large mixed cups of Sinopia powdered pigments, Gamblin oils, Graham oils and the finest Gamblin linseed oil and gum spirits of turpentine.
