He employs loose, impressionistic techniques, embracing the fluid, dynamic qualities of watercolor to evoke a sense of movement and atmosphere. His expressive paintings celebrate North America’s working architecture, landscapes, and wildlife, capturing the spirit and stories of remote regions. Ron’s work conveys nostalgia, reverence, and a profound connection to the places and cultures he depicts, inviting viewers to share in his sense of adventure and discovery.

Ron is a Professor Emeritus, College of Built Environments, University of Washington; a retired architect and urban planner, principal of Kasprisin Pettinari Design; and is the author of six books on watercolor, design composition and urban design: "Urban Design: the composition of complexity, Second Edition",; "Play in Creative Problem-Solving".
