About this artwork
Bug is some how both grotesque and sublime. Compelling in it's complexity. A whimsical descendent of dread and imagination. A work born simultaneously of dreams and nightmares - Carlo McCormick

« My sculptures explore the emotive, social, and psychological associations of decaying, found objects that function as autobiographical metaphors. »
Ronald Gonzalez is a contemporary, figurative artist based in upstate New York. Since the mid seventies, Gonzalez has created elegiac sculptures and installations that evoke death and loss infused with grotesque narratives. Gonzalez works primarily with steel armatures, time worn objects, and detritus collected from his surroundings. The work is developed with metal filings, burned wax, glue, wire, and black soot creating a dramatic, tonal range that both obscures and reveals his anthropomorphic heads, torsos and figures imbued with a sense of primal energy.
