About this artwork
In creating this piece, I drew upon the raw essence of disparate materials—melding metal and leather into an assemblage that speaks to the core of human expression. This sculpture captures a rugged, almost steampunk visage, evoking thoughts on identity and the masks we wear. Its textured surfaces and intentional composition radiate an energy that's both enigmatic and grounding, bringing a stirring presence to any space.

« My sculptures explore the emotive, social, and psychological associations of decaying, found objects that function as autobiographical metaphors. »
Ronald Gonzalez is a contemporary, figurative artist based in upstate New York. Since the mid seventies, Gonzalez has created elegiac sculptures and installations that evoke death and loss infused with grotesque narratives. Gonzalez works primarily with steel armatures, time worn objects, and detritus collected from his surroundings. The work is developed with metal filings, burned wax, glue, wire, and black soot creating a dramatic, tonal range that both obscures and reveals his anthropomorphic heads, torsos and figures imbued with a sense of primal energy.
