About this artwork
The solitary figure stands at the transition between land and sea, between control and surrender. Before her, a gigantic eye opens, simultaneously observer and abyss. It seems to gaze at the viewer, yet the figure also looks into it. Who is… observing whom here?
Inspired by Nietzsche's statement "If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you," the work poses the question of why we sometimes voluntarily descend into our own depths.
It deals with addiction, emotional dependency, and the fascination with one's own shadow side. It tells of the moment when desire is no longer directed outward, but confronts us with the hidden spaces of our own psyche.
