In this painting, the artist creates an epic setting. The colors are dramatic, full of strength and contrast. An apocalyptic symbology can be distinguished, such as a falling meteorite, a red moon or a storm surge. A mythical phoenix is observed, as a symbol of hope and persistence but that has been crossed by an arrow that comes from a crossbow that unites in the ocean and that seems to have fallen from a boat that is being hit by the tide.

Roque Reyes is an experienced Mexican artist with international exposure. His paintings can be divided into two main themes: the first being the realistic representation of his culture- he is Oaxacan of Zapotec origin- and the second a surrealist, dreamlike style. Shifting between the personal and the universal, Reyes reflects the confusion, chaos and beauty of the human experience.
