About this artwork
In "Tagliatelle di Quartiere," the artist interweaves figurative and abstract elements into an intense, layered visual narrative. At the center of the composition, a man in a hat and coat emerges from a vortex of color, wearing a cross around his neck that seems to evoke faith, identity, or redemption. His face, drawn with nervous, bold lines, is surrounded by an urban landscape that dissolves into fluid, symbolic forms.
On the right, a dark mass… resembling smoke or shadow emanates from a structure reminiscent of a tent or house, suggesting tension, memory, or transformation. Above, flocks of birds cross the sky, conveying movement and freedom, contrasting with the emotional density of the central subject. The word "Vesuvian" punctuates the work like fragments of a personal or urban code, while the yellow-orange background vibrates with energy and warmth, like a sunset enveloping the neighborhood in a melancholic embrace.
Rosario Annunziata is an Italian painter born at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, a land where history continues to burn beneath the surface and art becomes a necessity of expression. His work combines gestural energy and primitive signs, between abstraction and figuration, rooted in Neapolitan culture and the archaic symbols of the Mediterranean. Through textured, layered surfaces, charged with color, he constructs an intense yet silent social commentary, capturing the restlessness of contemporary man. Broken faces, crosses, volcanoes, and totemic animals emerge as recurring elements, evoking identity, memory, and resistance. Influenced by Basquiat, De Kooning, and the language of urban graffiti, he transforms gesture into language and painting into emotional tension. He lives and works in Campania, where he combines his artistic practice with teaching.
