I continue with my series in which I make a portrait of a person intent on smoking a cigarette. I haven't smoked for a long time, but I know the feeling you get when, at the end of what you've done, you anticipate the desire to smoke. It's an intimate moment, of concentration with oneself and ultimately of appreciation of solitude.…
Simone de Beauvoir's phrase accompanies this painting because individual freedom is a great goal.

Italian artist Rossana Borzelli comes from a Roman family of artisans and artists and has always expressed her deepest emotions through this medium. Her striking portraits are inspired by her life experiences and those of female artists of yester years. Their silhouettes are ethereal, emotive and evocative of the struggles they encountered. Working with a diverse range of organic and traditional painting materials Rossana's pieces have great depth and texture, enduring totems to their subjects.
