From a series Shadow Play, based upon Victorian parlour games, which focus upon spectacle, performance and illusion.
From a series of works in which Halls is drawn to explore the endless possibilities which can be exploited within a seemingly simple visual premise: figures suspended in space, their location an unknown. These figures are poised somewhere between stasis and movement, motionless yet inexorably pulled by an unseen force.
This is a… painting of the interior of her studio, with her favourite 'model' Dorothy walking on its ceiling. It seems to be night, and no-one else is present. Some of the work Halls has made in the building seems to coexist as a temporal, alternate world within that of the Bingo. Halls like to imagine that impossible things are going on even when she is not there.
