About this artwork
The artist takes us beyond a consensual representation of women that prevails in our Western societies, to go beyond the reflection of a simple narrative image. Halfway between figuration and abstraction, the composition, colors and materials of these works reveal the image of women from deliberately different angles. She sublimates states of mind and states of being with complexity and always with accuracy.
From an image or a photograph, the artist… treats the raw materials that she breaks down into several layers. The techniques she generally uses are collage, engraving and painting (acrylic). She sometimes associates inkjet randomly depending on the subjects treated that she then finalizes with a digital treatment. In this series, charcoal, watercolor pencils or oil pastel are also present.

Roxane Stroobant is a prizewinning artist from France whose works have been featured in exhibitions nationally. A graduate from art college in Belgium, she combines photography, painting, and collage. Roxane starts with an image and adds various elements to create vivid textures and surprising elements within the composition. Her work captures the vibrancy of the urban landscape and also women’s themes.
