In this piece, I poured my emotions into fluid, swirling forms that flow gently across the paper. The soft, layered watercolors evoke a sense of calm movement and transformation. I wanted to capture the delicate balance between chaos and serenity, inviting you to feel the organic energy and subtle depth this artwork brings to any space. It’s like a quiet breath of life, ready to awaken your surroundings.
'Elder' is part of the Lifescapes series,… which represent ecosystems and all of the living and non-living entities that make it up over time. This piece refers to the body of a person who has lived a long life, or multiple lives. The human body holds onto our experiences — traumas, joys, wounds, and memories. The collection of these experiences in the body is depicted in this work of watercolor on paper. The colors indicate different types of experiences in the body, and the shapes indicate when they became integrated into the whole, or were forgotten.
Roxanne Louise Pinto Hjorth is an artist skilled in various mediums with a formal background in Japanese brush painting and an expansive career in illustration and textile design. Merging Western and Eastern techniques, she creates abstract concepts through watercolors and brushes, adoring the performative and unalterable nature of her works. Her art captures the emotions of change and growth, echoing the inescapable interplay between human experiences and natural systems, with an inherent drive to break away from isolation and dig deeper into universal unity.
