In this piece, I worked to boost the depth of watercolor, letting the pinks and oranges dance against the deep blue backdrop. The abstract forms evoke a living, breathing energy—like a bloom unfurling in quiet strength. It’s a celebration of movement and transformation, meant to bring warmth and a dynamic spirit to any space it inhabits.
'Orchid' depicts the ecosystem of the plant of the same name, which are sometimes thought of as parasites. They… live on trees and embed their roots in the bark and moss — they cannot live on dirt alone, but require moisture from their root matrix. This image depicts the ecosystem of an orchid and its host or pot. The plant and its environment are entangled in this system, with the structure changing and evolving over time, along with the plant. In this work of watercolor on paper, the colors depict the different entities in the system, and the shapes and their direction show the evolution of the different aspects over time.
