About this artwork
The electoral system in parliamentary democracies are often based on two separate electoral votes, the first and the second round. The two candidates with the highest number of votes in the first round of voting go on to the second and final round; the winner is often not what many voters had voted for as their first choice, but wins the election by the contingency vote.
This painting was originally started in 2013 but was reworked in 2018, after… the election of Emmanuel Macron to the French presidency. He was elected based on very few known facts, being both young and the leader of a completely newly self-created political party, En Marche, named after his initials. With the traditional political parties having lost all credibility in face of scandals and broken promises, Emmanuel Macron and his En Marche was in fact the absolute contingency vote based on nothing but a promise of Magic.

Roy Forget is an experienced artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in the United States.
