About this artwork
This is a small study done in preparation for the much larger painting, “Lorsque, pourtant, et . . .” The larger piece can be seen in the series “Inextinguishable Light” here on Singulart. The flying monk itself is based on traditional colored ink scrolls from Tibet, an example of these can be seen at the Rubin Museum in New York. The monks are traditionally seen as protectors as well as messengers.

Roy Forget is an experienced artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in the United States. He describes his works as a way to contemplate the world he lives in, putting a painterly order into it. Forget's diverse compositions center around the human figure. Not satisfied with the cursory symbolism of the human form, he endeavors to find its weight and its presence.
