About this artwork
“Otium” or disinterested contemplation of nature was a highly regarded activity in classical antiquity. It was an endeavor of the parts of society who had the leisure to think and reflect and not toil ceaselessly.
The male nude in this small painting references the famous painting by the Italian mannerist painter, Jacobo del Zucchi, “Amor and Psyche.” Only here, Cupid is alone and his wings have been clipped. He looks down, away from the surrounding… nature, perhaps at a small insect crawling on his body?

Roy Forget is an experienced artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in the United States. He describes his works as a way to contemplate the world he lives in, putting a painterly order into it. Forget's diverse compositions center around the human figure. Not satisfied with the cursory symbolism of the human form, he endeavors to find its weight and its presence.
