About this artwork
I have created a series of paintings inspired by Prehispanic architecture and urban planing. I have had the privilege in the past of visiting several archeological sites and It was an incredible experience. Seeing in person the layout of the city, the buildings, the "streets" and understanding the level of skill and sophistication of the urban planing is amazing. Geometry played a very important role in Prehispanic cultures, not just in their architecture…
and urban planing, but also in the decorations of the buildings and everyday objects. I have incorporated contemporary elements, like arrows and lines, resembling some of our current road signals. I hope you enjoy the series. The paintings are done on Italian Fabriano paper, using oil and oil pastel. The dimensions provided are the size of the paper.

Ruben Nieto was born in Veracruz, Mexico. He holds a BFA from the Universidad de Guanajuato and an MFA in Arts and Technology from The University of Texas at Dallas. Nieto has shown internationally in Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France, Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.
