About this artwork
The abandoned two-story house stands isolated in the barren landscape of the Canary Island of La Gomera, accessible only by a footpath. The first nighttime encounter took place in 2007. I was captivated by the tension between the starry sky's circular movement around Polaris and the weight of the immobile house. Over the years, the dark windows in the moonlight coalesced into an image of emptiness. This gave rise to the idea of breathing life back… into the house, if only for a moment, and staging a colorful fiesta. During the long exposure, a meticulously planned sequence unfolds, moving through the interior and exterior spaces, illuminated with colored gels. Besides control, moonlight, weather, and vegetation act as unpredictable forces. Only Polaris remains constant. The photograph was taken in 2015 under faint moonlight, with an exposure time of 24 minutes. No digital color manipulation was applied. Format 155 × 103.4 cm, edition of 25, Sony Alpha 7R with Summicron 1:2/35 lens.
Rupert Bronner, an architect by training, is a gifted painter, draftsman, and photographer whose artistic focus is on the transition between architecture and fine art. With intuitive freedom and a risky balancing act, he employs bold color choices and material qualities, using his drawings as a guide for his hauntingly abstract oil and acrylic works. His art is a thrilling journey of discovery and a communication of his inner stance, conveying an exhilarating sense of liberation from the constraints of reality.
