About this artwork
I spent days painting this and when I finished the artwork I didn't want to sell it. I stored it in my home for years and now I'm letting it go. I painted this from a B&W photographed from the library of Congress Photo Archives. This scene occurred in 1916 at the Detroit Docks with the White Star Line Tashmoo departing. People from the City and surrounding areas would pay to go to a special park, in this case the park was named Tashmoo. It… operated from 1897 to 1951 located on Harsens Island in St. Clair County. The river that adjoined the park was called the St. Clair River. The Island featured fancy Hotels and Tashmoo amusement park. The Tashmoo was the largest Steamboat on the Great Lakes and could carry three-and-a-half thousand passengers. It sank after hitting a rock close to the Michigan shore no one drowned.
